The first month of 2018 has already been over… We’re now on the month of February—the only 28-day month among the 12 months of the year. (but 29 every leap year). Aside from the Chinese New Year, another thing that makes this month anticipating is the set of awesome movies that are about to be released!

February 1

1. Marrowbone

This English-language Spanish movie filmed by Sergio G. Sánchez is story of a young man and his three younger siblings, who concealed the death of their mother in order to stay together, are troubled by a sinister spirit in their own home.

2. The Ex-File 3: The Return of the Exes

A Chinese romantic comedy film sequel to the 2014 film Ex-Files and 2015 film Ex-Files 2. This movie is about two buddies, Meng Yun and Yu Fei, who have broken up with their girlfriends but instead of being sad, the two enjoys their lives as single, until their exes return and ruin their happiness.

3. Braven

This Canadian action thriller film depicts a story of a humble logger, Joe, residing along the U.S./Canadian border with his family. One day, after arriving at the cabin, Joe and his father find a stash of heroin, hidden in the cabin by drug traffickers. When the drug runners came, Joe and his father has to do something for their survival, either kill the criminals or be killed by them.

4. Behind the Walls

Behind the Walls is a horror film about a haunted house who has been waiting for people to move in. Until the day comes that a broken family desperately seeking for new home for their new beginning find the house which they don’t know has a bad thing lying behind the wall.

5. Guardians of the TOMB

A film about the innocent discovery of a mummified Chinese ruler dating back to 200 B.C which unearths a horrible nightmare that should have better remained underneath the ground.

February 8

6. Molly’s Game

Molly’s Game is an American crime drama film based on the true story of Molly Bloom, a beautiful Olympic-class skier who runs an underground poker empire for Hollywood celebrities, athletes, business tycoons and even Russian mobs.

February 15

7. A Beautiful Moment

This Hong Kong movie centers an aging playboy bachelors who finally meet his ideal woman. After proposing marriage, he discovers that her stepmom was his first love long ago. The in-laws pretend to not know each other, but as the wedding date comes closer, the former lovers and the soon-to-be-wife develop into a love triangle.

8. The House of Happiness

This Cantonese film depicts the story of a bad-tempered Uncle Shui who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Since his son Liong Gor works in the city, he is left by the care of Ha Gu who happens to look like her dead wife. The old man then falls in love with the Ha Gu.

9. Agent Mr Chan

Mr Chan is a top agent who finds himself removed from duties after his comrade unintentionally offended a policewoman, Ms Shek. Years later, Ms Shek asks his help to solve a problem, which he accepts despite the fact that he’ll team up with her. The two have some ups and downs while working which eventually lead to romance.

10. The Monkey King 3

Based on the classic novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng’en and the third installment of the Monkey King franchise, which centers the continuing journey of the Monkey King and his companions. On their way, the king and his troops are taken captive by the Queen of an all-female kingdom. Now, the Monkey King has subdue the River God in order to rescue his master and brothers.

11. Think Big Big (大大哒)

A Mandarin comedy drama film about a plus-sized, carefree girl named Moon who works as a mascot performer in a theme park. Everything seems to be fine until she accidentally involved in a slimming competition. Despite of being a Nation Goddess, Moon is not happy with her fame for she loses the support of her parents and even  her best friends.

12.  Monster Hunt 2

A Chinese film sequel to 2015’s Monster Hunt. In this franchise, the story is set in a world where humans and monsters co-exist, a baby monster is born to become a king, Wuba. In order to bring back the peace in the monster world, Wuba needs to stop an all-out monster civil war.

13. Wonderful Liang Xi Mei

The film centers Liang Xi Mei, a retired woman who spends her time looking after her grandchildren and two sons, Robert and Albert. Since she always put her hopes to her younger son, whom she think is more reliable than the oldest. It makes Robert jealous and ends up asking for the help of God of Fortune to win back his mother’s approval.

14. Black Panther

Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to Wakanda to take his place as king. Unfortunately, a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa as Black Panther, is now tested and drawn into a conflict that puts Wakanda and the entire world at risk.

February 22

15. Operation Read Sea

A Chinese-Hong Kong action film depicting an event when a terrorist plot to obtain nuclear materials is hidden under the cover of a violent coup. In this situation, only Jiaolong Assault Team of the Chinese Navy has the skill to take on.

16. Phantom Thread

Phantom Thread is a film set in 1950’s post-war London, where a famous dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock creates dresses and garments for the members of the high society. Reynolds is a confirmed bachelor with an obsessive, controlling personality. Women come and go through his life,  until a met a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who soon be come his muse and lover.

17. 家大晒 STAYCATION

This upcoming Chinese film shows a story of a family man Fai who brings his wife and kids to a remote camp site, where he proposed his marriage fifteen years ago. Family trip is joined by Fai’s mother, estranged father and his brother Keung. Despite the fact that things didn’t do well as planned, the family are force into games that demand love and communication.
