What comes into your mind when you heard Labis, Johor? I bet , some would first think of the hot water lake, Kway Teow Aberdeen. But, have you thought of the history lying behind its name?

It would be better if we’ll take a glimpse of the history… It started when a British officers were surprised to see the river terrapins for they have never seen those kind of animals before. They asked the villagers about the name of those animals and the villagers responded “Labi-labi, tuan” which means “River terrapins, Sir”. Since they don’t really know the real name of those animals the British officers decided to referred to them as labis in the plural form. And that is also when the place started to be called Labis, where those animals can be seen. Sounds interesting, right?

Let us have a short tour around this interesting place, then!
