What makes a food become so attractive? It’s not really the look, but the smell! When we’re walking and suddenly smell a rich aroma, it will draw you closer to the store for sure! But, what if they have a not-so-good scent? Would you dare to try it?

1. Bitter Bean

Bitter Bean is common in Southeast Asia. It has possesses a lot of benefits such as lowers the blood pressure, improve anemia, helping you quit smoking and many more. Sadly, due to its foul odor, many are not a fan of this beany!

2. Durian

It’s no longer new to our nose that our mostly beloved fruit has a stinky smell! But since it has a delicious taste that captured not just Malaysia but also Thailand and Singapore, it is dubbed as “King of Fruit”!

3. Stinky Tofu

Stinky Tofu is common among night markets in Taiwan and Malaysia. Though it has an unpleasant aroma, many still buy this food because of its unique taste paired with chili sauce!

4. Natto

If it’s your first time taste Natto, you may find it smelly and has a bitter taste. You may not like it but in Japan, this is a very famous and many believe that it is the secret towards long life for it can prevent osteoporosis, atherosclerosis, cancer and even regulate gastrointestinal function.

5. Coriander

Coriander is a famous Chinese herb present in many Chinese cuisines. But, due to it’s not-so-good odor, we tend to remove it before eating our meals (yup, guilty foodie here!).

Either for frying, stewing, or soup, adding basil to it makes every dish delicious! Just endure its odor because it has a good effect in our body like dehumidification and anti-inflammatory!

7. Fish Sauce

Fish Sauce is one of Vietnam famous sauces, commonly used as a seasoning. Although it has a foul smell, it can make pumpkin and noodle dishes even tastier!

Salted fish is good to pair with porridge! Some may be afraid to try it due to its smell, but hey, it has a distinct taste worth a shot!

9. Century Egg

Century Egg is a preserved duck egg. May sound exotic and has a smelly scent, it is ideal to serve with porridge too!

10. Asam Laksa

This famous cuisine in Penang may not drew you closer for its smell but will lulled you into luscious sensation due to its delicious taste!
